Hate crimes bill passes out of committee, wingnuts pass out the disinformation

We're finally making progress on passing a federal hate-crimes bill: On Thursday, the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Protection Act passed out of the House Judiciary Committee.

Sure enough, as Kyle at RightWingWatch predicted, the right-wing freakout has begun. Unsurprisingly, Glenn Beck is already leading the way.

@clemmysf I agree with you and I'm gay. However, the law is a violation of equal protection. I'd love them to go after Christians because they're wrong. But they should make a special class of crime, not a special class of citizen. That is a clear violation of equal protection and venturing into thought police, something the constitution protects. Even the KKK is protected.

"Hate crime" laws are a form of fascism. It gives special treatment to certain groups. Next, the liberals will want one set of laws for blacks, one for gays, one for Muslims, and one for Hispanics.

Why doesn't he address the persistent rumors that have dogged him since 1990? Many are convinced that he raped and murdered an infant. There is a police report and oddities about the case -- the rectal swabs of the girl containing Glenn Beck's semen were "lost" ... and have never been found.

he doesnt get hate crimes? Its important to list hate crimes because its even worse when there is a a pattern to crimes because of a certain group, race, sexuality that that person belongs too. Call it what YOU want, but there is a list of those that will be protected, & these are just a few that will be protected. My point is that we should ALL be protected if any hate crime is committed against any person. This will not protect all, & will also convict those who speak against, or don't believe in a certain life style. Is that fair, is it right? Freedom of speach is no longer honored or respected. We don't have to agree, but we don't need to insult one another. Thanks for the pointer
