HFD Firehouse 68/A responded to an Alert 3 Airport emergency on US59, the southwest freeway early in the morning. At first crews en route thought this to be a bad dispatch, as there are no airports near District 68.
Once on location they found a small, single engine, two seat airplane that had crashed and was on fire. The pilot was alive, standing near the plane. He states that he lost oil pressure and found the first open field to set the plane down, which happened to be right behind a row of car dealerships on the southwest freeway feeder road.
This is recorded KHOU Channel 11 News Footage.
