To me, it depends on the mindset of the particular couple. As long as they're on the same page, there's no problem.
Some long-term relationships loose their devotional energy after entering marriage as if the strategy is "aha! you're locked in now!"
At times, I wonder if long-term relationships as 'singles' are stronger than 'marriages'. As singles, you or the other person can very easily leave at any time - so, there's no room for any slack.
