While driving from LA to Las Vegas with my family my brother Alexander made it a point to stop in Barstow California to show me a vacant outlet mall he squatted in, in 2006 and again in 2007. The unusual part was that the mall's lights, fountains, and PA system were all still running. We stopped to see what was still on. Recorded in July of 2011.

@Puzzoozoo yes, nearly all of them. theres still 10-12 stores and a large chinese buffet still there but 2/3 of it is closed

It used to be full of shops. At first there was 1 row (closest to In & Out) then they built more to surround the parking lot in the back. It was always a hike to shop there since you couldn't simply pull up to the storefronts & kinda far back from the freeway too. So when the Tanger Outlets went up across the street, visible from the freeway (and storefronts visible from the parking lot) business suffered. Now the food court has been turned into one huge chinese buffet & about 10 stores remain.

Music still playing.
Electricity presumably still running on some circuits.
Units still physically acceptable.
Looks like the perfect hangout and living space for drug dealers and the homeless.
