  • There are a few techniques, but probably easiest to "experiment" with different products to get -5x^2, and different products to get -28, such that the outside and inside products sum to 31x. For example: (-5x + 14)(x - 2) doesn't work b/c when you FOIL back, you get -5x^2 +24x - 28. The middle term is wrong. So, try other combinations to multiply to get -5x^2 and - 28, but a different middle term. Try

(-5x - 4)(x - 7). This doesn't work either. Try quadratic formula or maybe you made a typo?

  • Glad I could lend some help!
