(CASWELL LAKES, Alaska) Alaska State Trooper Terrence Shanigan's police cruiser dashcam shows a German Shepherd Dog leading the way through winding back roads to a roaring house fire on his owners' property on April 4th.

Service and Assistance Dogs are heroes every single day. But even pets can sometimes be heroes. Today, Friday April 23, a dog will be honored with an engraved silver plated dog bowl for incredibly and bravely leading an Alaska State Trooper to his master's burning workshop. "Buddy", a German Shepherd Dog, will be given the award at the Alaska State Troopers Headquarters building at 5700 E. Tudor Road in Anchorage.

The Alaska State Troopers said Buddy and his owner, 23-year-old Ben Heinrichs, were in the family workshop when a heater ignited chemicals. Heinrichs told Buddy: "We need to get help." The dog eventually found a trooper responding to a call about the fire.

Buddy's master Heinrichs suffered minor flash burns on his face. The workshop was destroyed and the house suffered minor damage.

  • Simply Amazing! Brought tears to my eyes, And some people think animals don't have feeling or souls sorry but I disagree.

  • @GinaEmacs Actually you are right, the dog kept looking back to make sure the trooper was following.. and was raised by a police dog trainer for the first 6 weeks...

here's the article, it was on yahoo news.. Alaska dog honored for leading troopers to fire And the police officer/trooper confirmed that yes, the dog did look back a few times to make sure he was there...

  • Respond to this video... Where are the cops running to the fire!? Is anybody hurt? -IDK, I don't care enough to check. I just watch the pretty flames...

  • @dtf1017 no...most police dogs are german shepherds and it has been that way for a long time. various other dog breeds are used though, but mostly shepherds.

  • @THISxISxREALITY Yha I heard this too. To go get the cop is one thing but to go "Ok good..Cops are here *phew* Ok be right back heading back for the fire truck" Thats just awesome

  • @kittybookitty most police dogs are belgian malinois they look very simular to german shepards but i think that was a german cause of the black on the back

  • just more evidence as to why GSDs are the smartest most loyal breed of dogs in the world. any dog is capable of doing this, i'm sure, but a GSD is most likely to. I mean that was a LONG way to lead from, and remember the GSD was in the black on night, waiting ALONE before the car showed up.

    this really gives me chills.

  • this is why you should never abuse your dog...they know!!!...if they hate you they wont help you like this

  • @nickd6966 After leading the state trooper to the house, apparently the dog ran back to the same spot and waited for the fire truck too! And after that he hopefully got alot of dog treats!!

  • what happened to the dog at the end??

  • Way to go !!!!!.

  • Bravissimo cane..!!!! una meraviglia di intelligenza...!!
