High-Fructose Corn Syrup Ad 2

The Corn Refiners Association decided to 'show' high-fructose corn syrup was as safe as sugar. It's no different than the Tobacco industry telling us nicotine isn't addictive. What they didn't tel...

HFCS tastes bad, lots of people are allergic. It has toxic residue from the processing, and there is a high chance it caused or contributed to the obesity epedemic in the US.

These commercials are terrible. Just because someone's uneducated about the dangers of High Fructose Corn Syrup doesn't mean those dangers don't exist - it just means the guy is an idiot and didn't do his research.

Good job, corn growers. Based on these insulting commercials, I have started cutting back even more on HFCS. If I see it on the label, I don't buy it.

Perhaps roids have fried your brain, Mr personal trainer. You fail at nutrition, and you fail at science, so you shouldn't be masquerading as an expert in nutrition. The science of sugars is a very heavily researched subject that predates the latest diet fad myths that have been circulating.

Glucose syrup is exactly what it sounds like, and is not a replacement or alternate term for HFCS. It's simply pure glucose. Canada and Europe use different terminology for HFCS. Europe calls it isoglucose, and Canada uses glucose/fructose.

The fructose in HFCS is no different than the fructose in sucrose. You're body won't treat the fructose in sucrose any differently than the fructose in HFCS. You're body can't use sucrose as it is, and will cleave it in your upper intestine. The reaction isn't regulated and doesn't stimulate any response. The villi of the upper small intestine always produce the enzyme sucrase, which isn't consumed as it catalyzes the reaction.

1. It costs less to buy corn than it does to grow it. Why? Because it is heavily subsidized.

2. Because it is so cheap, it is used in much higher quantity than it should.

Again, please address these two points directly.

(btw, it did start in the 90's. This started in the late 70's. By the 80's HFCS was the primary sweetener.)

So... It looks like you agree. You didn't reference any chef that uses HFCS.

And since you didn't challenge my assertion that HFCS is currently used in ridiculously high portions, I assume you agree with that as well.

He's not "terribly uninformed." Just not 100% right.

The basic concept it correct.
1. The liver is the only organ that can metabolize fructose.
2. It can only metabolize a certain amount.
3. At that point, it is converted to triglycerides (fat).

Please address these three statements. No insults. No generalizations about sugar.
