If you disconsider any effect over a projectile after it's released, the 45 degree angle will provide maximum range.
Considering the drag force caused by the air it's estimated that about 44 degrees is best. So I'd say 45 anyway. Theoretically you're right robmarlowe.

Could be the amount of powder in the blank. I don't think all blanks were produced the same way. I am also pretty sure it depends on the angle of the rifle when firing then attachment. I think a 45 degree angle would produce the furtherest distance but I have not tested this.

I've got the same thing! What kind of yardage are you getting on yours? My max is around 75yds. If you don't already have one, you can sometimes find an M203 Quadrant Sight for around $30, and that works great for launching as well.

I get about the same yardage. I think the berm was at 50 yards and the grenade attachment went well over it.
