Chrisine Ohlman, Sam Lay on drums, blues guitarist Rocky Lawrence and bassist Paul Ossola at Cafe Nine, New Haven, Connecticut on June 28, 2008. In the early 1960s Sam Lay began recording and performing with the founding fathers of blues - Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters. The recordings Lay made during this time, (including Muddy Waters' Fathers and Sons album recorded in the '70s), are considered to be among the definitive works from the careers of Waters and Wolf. He also laid the controversial beat for Dylan going electric and shocking the folks at Newport.
