@Bullettube I agree, these docs are very interesting :) Check out the Tanks! series, thats very good. Search for 'steel tigers' on youtube and you will find one of the episodes, and from that you can find the others. Very good documentary. :) Take care mate, respect to the US from England.

@Xiolablu3 Thank You. I hope that people will learn as much as I have from watching these old documentaries, especially the Docs made in England which were never viewed here in America. Reading books is fine, and books will always contain more detail, but for sheer visual, and dramatic impact you can't beat a good film!

@Xiolablu3 You're right! Maybe I should have said "America built the first plane intended only for dive bombing" and then added that it was not a great success as it was too slow to out-fly defensive fighters. The idea then evolved into the fighter-bomber which was better, but these planes were still not as good against pure fighters like the Spitfire, ME-109 and the American P-51. I think the Mosquito came the closet to being a perfect fighter-bomber, and it's type is still seen today.

actually, the idea is British, the US was however the first to build purpose build dive bombers.

Great to this film as it was never available here in America. Of course they neglect to mention that the idea of a dive bomber was conceived in America way back in 1925.
