"Rum and Coca-Cola", performed by The Andrews Sisters with Vic Schoen and His Orchestra. This hit was recorded on the Decca record label on October 16, 1944. The song was the top single of 1945 in the United States. This record is being played on my 1946 Capitol Phonograph (Model No. D-17).

  • I want one of those record players! Where did you get that record player at? Great song!

  • @jukeboxman1950 Yes, it's a great phonograph. This is the only one like it I've seen so far. I have yet to see one advertised on eBay. I've even tried doing numerous Internet searches using the Capitol name and model number without any luck. The phonograph was purchased by my Dad after his Marine Corps service in WWII. I've rebuilt the tube amplifier, installed a new modern ceramic phono cartridge, and replaced the turntable idler wheel. Everything else is still original.

  • @LosAngeleno1959 The case is described in Louis Nizer's book My Life in Court.

  • @LosAngeleno1959 ...this song was written by Lord Invader actually

  • Wow! That is a fantastic phonograph!

Just goes to show the quality we used to make.

Fantastic song and record Thanks for the treat!

  • love it

  • Ahh so anyway apparently there was a lawsuit in the 50s over this song. It appears Maury Amsterdam stole and copyrighted the song from the Calypsian artist Lord Invader. Can find the song on here.

It's a song about prostitution in trinidad in WW2, and the original version is much darker.

  • @LosAngeleno1959 you think Bob Dylan, universally acclaimed as one of the finest songwriters of the 20th century, is professionally jealous of Morey Amsterdam? Seriously?

BTW great song... even though it's completely racist, suggesting the "natives" will do anything for the "yankee dollar" lol.

  • @dlabellarte Bob Dylan is so removed from reality that what he says is usually tossed aside. Why would he want to take away Morey's glory? I think it's just proffesional jealousy on Bob's part. Dylan ought to just go back in his room andd take bong hits and leave Morey alone.
