Not quite sure that a STOCK 6.5 is supposed to smoke quite this much...but it sure looks cool lol

Sorry about the sound quality. My camera is a pile of crap.

  • i have a 6.5 in fact i always had diesels, i'm around alot of dust and so forth but when they get to pushing alot of black, the air filter is getting clogged up, it looks like you have the fuel pressure at the injector just not enough air

  • I know. I haven't replaced the air filter in awhile and it's pretty nasty. I plan on getting a whole new high-flow air intake for it to go with the open exhaust. Thanks!

  • my fathers truck does that cuz the turbo dont work sometimes. Shes just startin to run bad and its got around 200,000 on it. It had cracked heads when he got it and it had like 175,000 then.

  • I love the old 6.5s. I had one for a while. Now I have a 7.3. Both were straitpiped, But the 6.5 makes such a better noise!

  • my buddy has a suburban with a 6.5 and it's all stock and blows more than the video. it's actually his wastegate that has gone bad that makes it smoke so much

  • @80K25 Drop it man, you were incorrect nearly two years ago, contradicted yourself, and still incorrect to this day.

Here is a quote from your own comment.

"Black smoke is caused by one thing, and only one thing -- Over fueling"

WHAT DO YOU THINK RUNNING RICH IS? A low air to fuel ratio! I.e. more parts fuel than more parts air, compared to a higher air to fuel ratio! Christ. Journeyman diesel mechanic? What'd you learn from? "How to become a diesel mechanic for dummies"?

  • @kcole939 I know this is a year later -- But dude, you clearly don't know the first thing about diesel engines! Hearing you call me (a journeyman diesel mechanic, by the way) clueless was just too funny to pass up! Your comment of a rich running diesel threw any credibility you might have had clear out the window. Diesel engines are always running as lean as possible, you can not make a diesel engine run rich, as it absolutely always has excess air, due to no air intake restriction.

  • @washkin put a manual waste gate on it i had the same problem

  • @washkin insted of changing the vacuum pump on my 6.5 i just put a manual waste gate controller from heath diesel on my truck, the codes went away and it runs alot better

  • @GreaseMonkeyVIPfixed it, had to replace the vacuum pump which went out. i cleard the codes with a code scanner. and hasnt come on ever since driving it. i can tell you its kinda pain in the ass to change it. thanks though. whats a resistor for a truck? is it a fuse?

  • @classiccube

Black smoke or COAL as people call it is just unburnt fuel.....

If you have a truck that is fast as hell and "doesnt" smoke thats MAD props!!!! Your actually using the fuel to make power not just look kool lol

Check out banks trucks, everyone bags on them cuz they dont smoke, yet one runs the quarter fast as hell w/o smoke and another goes over 200mph w/o any smoke either.... and the 200mph truck they also use to tow with!!!!! Now thats what a true performance diesel is !!!!!

  • @washkin

I am not 100% sure about this, Im very new to the 6.5s but I would check the resistor? I had the same problem on my old work truck and we swapped in a #9 resistor and it got rid of code and ran a few more psi and added about 35whp or so :)

Like I said tho Im no expert on these motors yet, but I would give that a check good luck!
