Actually the disease was spread by aliens practicing methods of population control. After the onset of each incident of the disease witnesses would report seeing creatures clad in black robes with metallic rods of some sort on the outskirts of town spraying mist. This is also how descriptions of the grim reaper (death) got started. Boohaha; happy Halloweeeen boys and girls!!!

Ring-a-ring a roses (which was changed to ring around the roses.) A pocket full of posie (which was not changed at all and meant exactly what it said.) Ashes ashes ( and also in that time period was "a-tissue a-tissue") We all fall down.
This was invented by young children. the first line refered to the red rings a person would get on their body, the second would refer to what the people carried to cover the putrid smell. Third line; Burning bodies. Last; Death.

well you're aall half wrong. it was not the black death or the great plague, it Was th BLACK PLAGUE. and during that time, this song was made up by children to help them cope and not go insane due to the mass amount of loved ones dying. They would often be heard singing this song, and dancing in fields. The original lyrics were.
