I agree to some extent except the people of diego garcia were not indigenous like the polynesians of Hawaii, The British actually brought people to diego garcia (uninhabited) in the early 1900s, mainly from southeast asia, and when the British needed a base, they moved most inhabitants to the maldives, bad, but not as evil as everyone is making it out to be. and really not colonialism, because they didnt have to conquer anyone as there was no one in Diego Garcia.

As a Hawaiian person I really appreciate your contribution to this discussion nanabijou62. It hurts me to read some of the anti Hawaiian posts that I see so I really appreciate it when non Hawaiians try to understand. Naturally I am sympathetic to the natives of Diego Garcia. You know if the tables were turned mainstream Americans would not be having any of it!

lol, you all say free DG, or hawaii, or fiji, or whatever. You do realize how many jobs have been created because of our military involvement there? Our "imperialism" has done far more then any other to modernize these small indigenous island nations. There's only real independent nation-state left in the south pacific, and they're a monarchy. And 100,000 of the 200,000 residents live outside the country and send money to their relatives. That's their economy.

Dude, let me explain this to me. I LIVED in hawaii for 2 years. Don't lecture me about something i SAW WITH MY OWN EYES. They brought in japanese, filipinos, and samoans. True full-blooded hawaiians are only 2% of the population now. Who fucking cares? They had thousands of years to get their act together, and instead they surfed and smoked pot. Boo hoo.

They could not vote when the decision was made for annexation. THAT IS A VERY IMPORTANT FACT. Then foreign workers were brought into the country to work the sugar fields. The natives were outnumbered within a few years. Why do I bother trying to explain anything to you child. It is like trying to explain quantum mechanics to an ant.

Are you that dense? They CAN vote now! And guess what? the majority of public schools are non-white pacific islanders. Most of the teachers speak this ugly ass pidgeon mix between english and hawaiian, it sounds fucking atrocious and i hate it.
