Calling HIV/AIDS "not contagious" is misleading, but I agree with your overall point. There are many simple ways to halt the spread of the virus that make it easier to deal with than insect-born illnesses like plague. So far, the most "plague-like" disease pandemics we could expect to see in today's world would be things like influenza, malaria, cholera, anthrax, or ebola/haemmorhagic fever.

That awkward moment when another plague already did happen. Spanish Influenza in 1918. It killed more people in one year than this did in four. Of course, the world population was a lot bigger. I'm worried about another plague though. LIke Bird Flu or something. All I know is, if there's another huge epidemic, I really don't want to be around for it.
