Cinematic Film Look HV30 Test footage #2 HDV camera

Shot with my new Canon HV30 around Mill city museum in MInneapolis, MN. This was is a test to see the depth-of-field capabilities and just to have fun getting footage. 24P, vivid mode, 1/48-1/100 shutter speeds.

I have affected the footage in post as an attempt to "film it up". I don't use the Cinematic mode ever (in-camera mode), I think it ruins the video quality for post work. No major effects here, just small shifts in white point and contrast/saturation.

For my next shoot I definitely want to utilize a tripod or steadicam, (these shots get pretty shaky otherwise)... The focus wheel is very small on this camera (like a middle-mouse scroller) and causes the cam to bounce around. I have seen adapters to make it manageable though.

Hey great looking video! The depth of field looks great (with no adapter or extra lens correct?). Was this all shot from just the camera itself or filters or lenses added? Thanks -Josh

@joshybumboshy Thanks for looking Josh. No, there weren't any filters used. The optics and DOF are entirely from the HV30 alone. I did heavily effect the footage in post with color correction and contrast shift (I pulled forward the yellows and blues on this one).

My only quarrels with this camera is the sketchy focus wheel and some shutter speed/aperture customization issues, but for the size and 1080 performance it is a great little camera.

@danieliinho This footage was corrected and edited in iMovie 09.... I am working on new shots in Final Cut pro, which is waaaay better. Thanks for looking.

I like the usage of the rack focusing. On that particular camera, is the focusing manual? I've been looking into one of these for a while now, and thought it might be a pretty cool investment.

how did you got the shallow DOF, please explain i'm going to buy a camcorder and i don't know if i need to get a 35mm adapter or not

BS...you can't do DOF without an adapter. t2i footage is better for lower cost.
