An AMV which puts the 'Ballard of Serenity' theme from 'Firefly' to the 'Space Pirate Captain Herlock-Endless Odyssey' OAV Series.

Firefly was a show I managed to watch in the summer of 2004 and I fell in love with it immediatly. The works of Leiji Matsumoto (Space Battleship Yamato in particular) were one of the contributing factors for my intense love of anime. I felt that the Firefly theme song fitted with the ideas that are approached in Captain Herlock (freedom in space, living your own way, etc) made for a great fusion of Science Fiction- American and Japanese.

Before anyone asks, this is MY AMV, I created it, I posted it up.

  • This sound is rotten!!

  • @SimariusSerialMipper By that, do you mean that the soundfile I used to make the video way back in 2006 isn't of the greatest quality? Or is it that you don't think that 'Firefly' and 'Captain Harlock' don't make a good mix? Because 'This sound is rotten' is a bit vague.

  • do you suppose that "Firefly" was influenced by the good Captain's story? So much is similar...

    Good fit!

  • @patnkatz Nah. Captain Harlock/Herlock is an incredibly obscure show in the West. If Mal was any way meant to be inspired by Harlock, the apple fell far far from the tree.

  • Its just sooo sad that Firefly was cut off..., loved this show!

  • Sorry, i don't understand, i say just than the quality of sound is bad, but the music is good...

  • That's pretty cool.

  • I dunno - both captains are mysterious, quiet men of action, have lost everything, outlawed and are fighting back the only way they know... More alike in spirit I think. After all, they couldn't make it exact or you would have copyright problems!

  • @manmiles Not so incredibly far. Both are essentially westerns in space. Even the ships are similarly named. Serenity (a state of being of at peace) and Arcadia( a time or place of peace). But they are too different to say one was an inspiration.
