Green Leader Elizabeth May joined Canadian author Farley Mowat for a fundraiser in Port Hope, Ontario on Wednesday, February 24th.

The fundraiser was held at Bredon House on Dorset Street West in Port Hope. Northumberland-Quinte West Green Party candidate Stan Grizzle was also in attendance.

Farley has been a long-time dear friend. I am honoured that Farley and Claire have become Green Party supporters, said May. I am also grateful to Stephen Smith for hosting this event in his beautiful historic home.

The evening included speeches from May as well as a reading from Mowat and a silent auction of first editions of some of his books.

Farley Mowat is a well-loved Canadian icon: author of 25 books and published in over 20 languages in more than 60 countries. Now 88 years old, Farley no longer makes public appearances.

Its time we had some democratic government in this country and it seems there is very little possibility of getting it from any of the other parties. So I am supporting Elizabeth May who may be the only honest to God, functioning democrat on the federal scene, said Farley Mowat.

This is such an exciting opportunity to have an evening with Farley Mowat and Elizabeth May. Both have made such enormous contributions to Canadian society, said Stan Grizzle, local Federal Green party candidate. We are very glad that Farley is part of the team to have Elizabeth elected to Parliament. With the Green Party commitment to the arts and literary culture of Canada, we need Elizabeths voice in the House of Commons.

Mowat also took the opportunity to announce that he had completed his latest book. The book will be the second volume of his autobiography and will be a continuation of Mowat's "Otherwise", "Eastern Passage" will focus on his perceptions of events between 1947 to 1957 and will be published in the Fall.
