A Veteran speaks directly to Senator Daniel Akaka about his failure to allow Bill S663 to reach the floor for a vote, a Belated Thank You to the Men of the Merchant Marine (for their service). He points out that Hawaii has been totally dependent upon the Merchant Marine for everything since Capt. Cook first set foot on one of the Islands. There are other interesting facts and pictures as well. This is Part 1 of 7.
This man is a hero as well as any of our WWII hero's, which they all were hero's. The Merchant Marines were the bravest of all and were mistreated terribly in the beginning of the war, they were unarmed sitting ducks being attacked constantly and men were killed and their ships were sunk. My father was a sailor and diver not a Merchant Marine...he told me many stories of the bravery it took for those men and how they saved us.
