I was just like that girl when I was little. Ernie was my idol, and I begged my mom to get me a striped shirt like his. The closest she could find was a red & blue shirt minus the yellow trim, but it was still my favorite shirt. :)

She most certainly was. And therefore, I used to have a striped-shirt just like the ones she and Ernie wore.

Ernie and Katie seemed to be connected by their minds as of acting the same way of all kinds of alternate things that Ernie does.

I may be mistaken, but I think Katie might be the same little girl as was in "Christmas Eve on Sesame Street"- the last one who talked to Grover. Said something about Santa getting into the house by pushing a button and Grover faces the camera and says "there you have it".
This is probably the only time that Ernie ever admits to being orange.
