'sus' chord refers to the 4th note in the scale replacing the 3rd note. A 7th chord refers to a major triad with the 7th note on top:

A major = A C# E
Asus = A D E
A7 = A C# E G
Asus7 = A D E G

Or if you'd rather see it as intervals:
A = R 3 5
Asus = R 4 5
A7 = R 3 5 7
Asus7 = R 4 5 7

Sometimes the triad is a 'sus' chord, rather than a major and minor chord. As a result, seventh chords can have many different 'options' for sounds and intervals in the triad (as well as added extensions and tensions like 9ths, 11ths, augmented, and 13ths)

  • Can some please tell me what the diffrence between "A" and "A major"

  • @Life4Summer nothing. they're both the same. SAying something is in the key of A is implied to mean "A Major"

  • sus = 1/4/5

    7=1/3/5/b7

    sus7 = 1/5/b7

  • @hanzimaster almost. sus7 has the 4th in it

  • @waltribeiro i thought that was sus4and7 which doesn't exist

  • @hanzimaster sus4add7 and 7sus4 are the same chord. bThe former is written incorrectly though. Unless you were referring to no fifth interval in the chord?
