Every day, we are finding more and more fishing line and hooks. We have found swans and geese entangled in the line, with hooks (some barbed, and illegal in the park) stuck in their mouths and bodies.
Fishing needs to be banned in Prospect Park, period.
Stabbing a living creature with a huge (to the fish) spike and lifting him up by it is PAINFUL. To add insult to injury, people do not take the time to dispose of their fishing line properly, in spite of the fact that FIDO has put receptacles specifically for that purpose around the park.

There are better ways to enjoy the park, without hurting anyone. Take a walk, take some pictures, take a bike ride ... but leave the animals alone!

  • If fishing gets banned I pray to GOD that you and your dog are both hit by a car...and the lake isnt just there so your dog can swim in it you selfish fuck.

  • @Feedback518 , Lovely. You make me so proud of my species.

  • Why is your dog off the leash swimming in the lake? Oh because you know your dog won't kill ducks? If unknowing bird lovers saw that, they would think you're disgusting.

  • @coolvid , dogs are permitted offleash in this area, and they are allowed to swim in the lake at this specific location. Our dogs do NOT disturb the ducks, geese, swans, and other wildlife.

  • it doesent have to be banned but every has to pick there stuff up and take it home !!!!!!

  • Not all fisherman are irresponsible with fishing line and hooks. I fish at the park frequently and I always clean up after myself. I think your "ban fishing" rhetoric is a tad on the extreme side. Quit being such a debbie downer!

  • @jjmcjesus, also, please don't try to justify fishing wrongs by citing picnicking wrongs. Didn't your mother ever teach you, two wrongs don't make a right? Picnickers have NO respect for the trees, other park goers, or the park in general, and the rangers have to start enforcing the rules, but that's a separate issue.

We are talking about fishing here.

  • @jjmcjesus , actually, they purpose of the lake was not for fishing, but for the beautification of the park and the nurturing of wildlife. While fishing is (unfortunately) permitted, most people don't do it responsibly or legally, using barbed, and in some cases double-barbed hooks (which rip out the fish's insides, giving them terminal injuries, in what is supposed to be a catch and release program), leaving their fishing wire all over the lake and surrounding area, and eating the fish..

  • okay listen the fish were stocked in the pond so people could fish there. The purpose of the pond is FISHING! It is not meant for your dog to swim or play in. Also saying fishing should be banned is completely ridiculous i have seen many people leave garbage behind while grilling such as food and coal. Coal kills trees so lets band grillers. Also people leave garbage behind so lets ban people too, also if it wasn't for all the garbage left behind in the Lake fishing lures wouldn't be left behind

  • you know that the hundreds of people everyday that go there to look at the wildlife liter so y dont we ban people to go in the park i go there a lot and i see it all and what about the fish if u love animals the water is very dirty y dont u say anything about that
