At least six people are dead after the Costa Concordia hit rock off the Tuscan coast around 9:30pm on Saturday. The Concordia quickly started to take on water and began to list badly. It is believed the captain decided to head for the harbor of Giglio. Once near the shore and in shallow water, the wash from the Concordia may have been deflected back toward the hull, causing it to roll. It has settled at a 90° angle on its starboard side.

  • 0:24 "And finally settled at a 90 degree angle"?

It looks more like 50-60 degree angle to me using the water as a horisontal measuring point.

Would have still been here, don't be ridiculous, they don't keep 100 year old steam ships around just because. Especially because if the Titanic didn't sink there would be not mythos surrounding her. She would have been around until the mid 1930s at most, (by which time she would no longer have been the biggest ship by quite a bit) and then would have been turned into razor blades.

The proof of this is the Titanic's sister ship, Olympic - scrapped in 1935.

  • @thweepz.When a ship turns it heels out of the turn. As he turned to port to get closer to shore , the ship would have heeled to Stbd.and any water in the ship would have flowed to the stbd (free surface flow), causing a list to that side A big enough list will upset the balance between 3 factors, the centre of bouyancy, centre of gravity and the metacentric height. When the M.H. goes outside the Cof B the ship will role over.

  • @DranweRagetotem well not exactily it most likely would have been scrapped in the 30ties just like her first sister ship the rms olympic

The Titanic received several ice warnings from multiple ships.

The Titanic sank due to a combination of disregarding the ice warnings they received, travelling through water reported to have Icebergs in it at a speed of 21 knots (note that its top speed was 23 knots), and the loss of the ships binoculars.

There are theories that if the Titanics crew did not try to turn away from the iceberg but instead reverse and engines and let it hit it head on, it would have survived.

  • i have said it before and i say it again... the titanic whas the perfect cruise ship. the only reason it sank whas because they didn't get the message from the other ship about the ice berg. and among other things sutch as the hull armor. if they have got the message. the titanic would have been still here. maybe.
