dear cholulasaucehot: I appreciate your tutorial on the history of the word "cunt". Now, when I call my wife a "cunt" I will at least be able to appreciate it's historical origin and experience greater joy in using the word.

One of the best series ever made in the history. Deadwood is my true favorite, also because I love western as hell. But Deadwood is a true masterpiece. HBO, damn you fag ass cocksuckers that canceled the show. Deadowwod is history. But I am proud to have it on DVD. And I'm serious, god damnit.

I have heard (although not 100% sure) that the directors used modern swear words which would not have been in use at the time, and thus not historically accurate. However, the decision was made to use modern swears for the modern audience to comprehend the hostility and hatred in the characters' diatribe. If the directors were to use periodic swear words, it would have sounded ridiculous to a modern audience. This may or may not be accurate.

they use anachronistic slangs. the true cocksukers are the pricks who changed the words around. if period slang sounds silly, don't use them. use action to emphasize the dialog, not lazy swearing.

@zackhanscom The creators of the show have indicated that their intent was to use language as shocking to modern TV audiences as the historically accurate slang was in its day. To us, "gul darn" seems quaint, but it would have been scandalous back then.

hey i was just wondering.....would calling someone a "cunt" back then be historically accurate? Did they even use that word then? ....also...what is the origin of that word?

I've heard the show took pains to be historically accurate, and a quick Google search brought me to the Wikipedia entry for cunt, and others, which bear out usage since 12th century. Origin disputed.
