Beagles are very smart dogs, and they're also very stubborn. Especially the males. I had one for 10 years. You need to train them right away when you get them. Now trimming is required on them, and they're great family dogs, great with kids and best in a house, NOT an apartment. Anyone who can't train a Beagle is simply not patient enough to do so. I trained mine from when he was 6 weeks old to around 8 years old, and they're workable, but you have to be patient with them.
