Kitty's father, Wayne Russell, arrives in Dodge to meet his daughter after abandoning her and her mother as a baby. He insists that saloon life is not fit for a proper lady and wants to
take her back to New Orleans so he can pamper her and invest her savings in his freight business.

@gnaaade I agree! I think they were one of the best "couples" on television, even though they were never really together. They ate dinner together, talked about big and small things, and really counted on each other.

@gnaaade In an interview, James Arness said, "If they were man and wife, it would make a lot of difference. The people upstairs decided it was better to leave the show as it was, which I totally agreed with." Also, originally Kitty was a prostitute and madam of a brothel that existed at the law's discretion, but that aspect was glossed over for the TV version.
