That whole bit about "I bet she told a million people etc..." is about the girl telling her friends and family she would talk to them on her trip (prolly to britain) but she forgot about all that as there's memories to be made with her man. Really a truly romantic and sentimental song.

I heard someone say that the singer once saw a couple while walking who looked truly in love asking where a to find a place they were going to. It makes perfect sense. He notes the young couple in a foreign place not knowing where they are, but they are so in love. He can't tell them where they need to get to but realizes where ever they are going they will be having a great time because they are together. He wishes them well and hopes they stay in love.

and also i think that "they make it far to easy to believe / that true romance cant be achieved these days" is a key line. I think what the song is saying is that it seems like beautiful things today are things we just hear about in songs or books or films. it is easy to think they are out of reach for ourselves, but if we just try we can have that "true romance", even if it only happens occasionaly and by mistake like to the couple in the song.
Anyway, sorry for the essay!

i think its a song thats open to interpretation but i think its about a couple wondering about a city they dont know ("in forigen place...") looking for a night out but never finding actually anywhere and having a better time because of it. "Even if somebody could have told you the place you wanted / im sure you could have made it that bit better on your own."

when it was?
