  • 0-60mph in 1 second the car is pulling a damn fricking 2.7gs.

    Tell me, which tyres in the world can stay in contact with the road when the force acting on it is 2.7g?

    Even the best supercar tyres pull at most 1.4gs. and these are ordinary street tyres.

    any RWD car under that kind of horizontal g forces will simply spin out.

    Okay, but even aerodynamic downforce IS generated by the car!! You don't have downforce until the car's engine generates power to propel the car forward! THEN the interaction of the car's body crashing against (relatively) stationary air creates aerodynamic downforce. Generating downforce against the wheels, both aerodynamically and mechanically, is ultimately generated by the engine.

    When we talk about cars and we say "downforce", we do generally mean downward force generated aerodynamically against the body of the car, and thus ultimately the wheels of the car at speed. But that's not the only kind of downforce a car can generate. It can also generate it mechanically with torque.

    that is not downforce. Downforce is defined as EXTERNAL FORCE, something not generated by the car. Something generated by the car itself, for example, the suspension against the ground, is a contributor towards basic traction.

  • @ASSHOLELA When the axial whines up the leaf springs the snuber on the traction bar hit the frame of the car thus forcing the the axial, and thus the wheels, in a downward motion.

    Force + downward motion = downforce. So if a car is properly equipped (not just traction bars do this) there IS downforce applied to the wheels when torque is applied. It still meets the basic definition of "downforce." Downforce isn't ONLY generated aerodynamically.

    that is not downforce per se. downforce is defined as an external force on the car which presses the car onto the ground, like aerodynamic. This result is internal, merely traction.

    the traction bars help reduce wheelhop which turns traction intermittent. the net increase in traction is only modest.

    I'm not saying you're necessarily right or wrong, but consider this: have you ever seen a set of traction bars? The way they work does generate downforce against the tires (through the axial housing) when torque is applied to the tires.

    Also weight transfer during a hard launch can effectively generate a downforce against the tires on a rwd car. Picture a wheel stand on a drag car.

    and no, when i look at the bottom of this car in this vid, the tyres are about as wide as an SSC aero's or bugattis.

    tyres dont heat up to temp in half a second, it takes many minutes. not within the time required to achieve 0-60 in 1s.

    michelin pilot SS which Agera uses supposedly could pull as much as 1.4gs.

    lastly, f1 tyres only achieve 2.5gs max of mechanical grip.
