I lived my childhood at 411 north maple street from '64-'77. My house was right behind Bethany Baptist. I loved this town and have dreams of living my life out there. Sad how you can never go back. But I have some really cool memories and I feel lucky Itasca is such a part of me even now at 50. The duck crossing! The creek! The dinners at the country club! The fireworks on the golf course! The bagged candles lining the streets at Easter! God Bless this town.
I lived in Itasca for 2 years too! 404 N. Elm Street to be precise. Went to Elmer Franzen Elementary and have many, many found memories of the great town! Would (strangely) love to see more vids of the town!
I lived in Itasca for only 2 years back in the early 70's. I love it there, we lived in an old house that we were told was the home of the first doctor. The front porch of the old house was detatched an placed on Walnut St across from the 7-11. Our house was at 7n024 Willow St. It has since been torn down to my surprise, and a newer home is there now. At the end of the road was a farm and a white horse lived on that farm, his name was Tiko.
What is that building where the butcher shop used to be? Is the original gazebo, near the duck pond, still there? And Mr. Usher wasn't only the mayor (or town president?) but also the barber who cut my hair back when I needed a booster seat (and got haircuts). He played the bagpipes too.
I lived in Itasca from 1956 - 1965 on Catalpa Street. I remember these things from those years. The deli off of Irving Park Rd where you could park on the roof. The Itasca Basket grocery right near the train station. The beautiful horse farm on the end of Catalpa St. where they put Franzen School. The bomb shelter in our basement that my dad and grandpa built with cinder blocks. Our tree fort by the horse farm. My last memories of big yellow earth movers building the interstate highway.
