People need to achieve a certain level of understanding of the world and other cultures, to see that their god and religion is just another myth, and the world really operates on scientific principles.
The parts of the USA where people are most educated and tolerant, the religion IS fading back and many have changed to scientific view of the world. However, larger parts of the USA the people are not enlightened enough. Same applies to Europe: the south and east are still quite religious.

I believe that a culture, that believes in a negative outcome, will be damned if it doesnt create it. How can you make any progress, solve any problems, and avoid pitfalls, if you don't think that its possible. A self fulfilling prophecy comes to mind. With so much intelligence and reason available, if the majority thought we were supposed to create heaven on earth, They'd be damned if they didn't. It makes one sad to think that all this intense pain and suffering, is completely unneccessary

I was a Roman Catholic all my life [23yrs]...only recently I can proudly say I am now a Free Thinker. You will see that Jesus is just like all the other gods that came before him. For all those brainwashed Christians please watch a film called "Zeitgeist". Jesus is basically the Sun in our Solar System.
