In the 60's times were crazy, the war raged in Viet Nam, Woodstock was rockin', and motocross was coming alive. In Southern California, Saddleback Motocross Park was the place to let it all hang out. It was cool through the 70's and early 80's producing many great champions and legends.

  • Great video. My uncle Furman Gray from Alabama raced in the 70's. He raced Anaheim in 75 or 76 in 500cc class. Awsome days they were. Look at what they started. Got to love MX and SX.

  • Wow - I'm with you guys - these videos are priceless. I grew up near Saddleback Park and still live (as the crow flys) less than a mile away. I would wake up in the morning to the sounds of those races every Sat & Sun morning. My dad would take me over there (he on his '74 Honda XL250 and me on my '75 Kawasaki 90). We enjoyed it so much and rarely missed a weekend. I drive by there at least once a week now and I can not go by without having my heart strings pulled. Are we all nuts or what?

  • My dad used to race minis here with and against Jeff Ward, I wish I could have rode it before it colsed...

  • Used to race there in the open class on a Suzuki 400 in the 1970's. I loved it and miss those days. I was part of the North High School Motorcross Team from Riverside, California.

  • I never raced, but always loved off road riding. Living close to Saddleback Park, I had year passes.

It is a shame that Saddleback closed down.

Litigation, and a crash with a death and serious injury, by a couple of "weekenders" finished the park off.

Damn lawyers, and cry baby plaintiffs! ALL of the SoCal parks that existed when I rode in the 70-80's no longer exist!

  • Best track in the WORLD!!!!!!! Love and miss Saddleback Park!!

  • God. That was a fun place. I liked the scrambles track. I remeber Jeff Ward racing a Honda mini- trail there lol.

  • One of my favorite memories is of the sign at the top of the Matterhorn, that had Steve McQueen, Malcom Smith, JN Roberts names on it, among other notables. Loved riding at Saddlback, and Muntz as a kid.

  • Used to ride there in the 70s on my old CZ. Escape country down the road a bit. Hell of a track.

  • WOW! That was great! Thanks alot for posting that. I grew up about 10 miles from there and like wakeboardad if I wasn't at OCIR I was at Sadddleback. I sure miss those days. My biggest regret is that I never made it up the Matterhorn. At first I didn't have enough bike to do the job, then when I got a big enough bike (my dads '79 Husky 390) I didn;t have enough ass! Sure was fun though!
