it used to be a bad thing to call someone an Otaku because it came from the word that means shut in. So it was used for people with no real lives but now it is used for some one who is really into something. examples are an anime otaku,manga otaku,or music otaku, football otaku but its mostly used for some one who really likes anime related stuff.
