Battery powered automatic top of system for fresh or saltwater aquarium use. This unit is easy and inexpensive ($10) to build and works flawlessly.

As you will notice, the pump in the video is loud. This is because its is $3. You must understand that a top off unit like this will only be running for a total of 1 to 2 minutes per day depending on how fast water evaporates from your aquarium. And, since it only runs for such a short period, the batteries should last a very long time. Or, you can buy a higher quality pump.

  • how do u splice the wire?

  • @barda12345 You can use a wire splicing tool from HD or radioshack, or you can use a razor. The trick is to only cut the plastic that encases the actual wire.

  • was this for a science project your kidding right?

  • @danbran67 I guess it could be a science experiment...

This exact ATO is still set up on the pico in the video. Works perfect. Why would I be kidding? Many people use this - I wasnt the first...
