Captivating moments from the films of Hedy Lamarr. Beautiful and clever (she invented spread spectrum telephony) - a most underrated star.

  • I have been watching Hollywood movies for over fifty years, but I have never across an actress more beautiful than Hedy Lamarr. It's a pity that most of her movies are in black and white, yet she stands out twinkling like a real star. Thanks to YouTube and persons like Malcolm Drew, I have been able to download some of her best scenes in films.

  • @zahedi15

Many thanks for your comments. regarding B & W be sure to check out another of my uploads - Hedy Lamarr in Colour.

  • how old is she today?

  • Unfortunately she died on January 19th 2000. Aged approx.86 (her birth year is quoted variously as 1913 and 1914).

  • Is the blonde Ziegfield girl Lana Turner?

  • Yes!

  • Maybe the best looking actress of all time, and a brilliant, but crazy person. Her invention of spread spectrum radio transmission helped us defeat the Nazis, whom she despised (she even left a husband for doing business with the Nazis). As she aged, though, she became a pathetic loony tune. She was caught shoplifting in her 60s, and by then had had several disfiguring plastic surgeries, 6 divorces, and was a major crazy. What a shame. Such a brilliant beauty. I love crazy chicks.

  • really? i dont see that, sure i guess with the raven hair, but Catherine looks more like Claudia Cardinale. As for Hedy, she is stunning, and most admirable woman, both on and offscreen. Lovely video you hvae here Malcolm!

  • @rickcee and I guess crazy chicks like crazy little guys like you, huh? You are right half the time--but you really don't know Hedy you are shooting off your mouth about that other stuff. She was not 'crazy'--she did become eccentric later on in life--but she certainly was together when the science industry honored her--she said 'its about time'--that does not sound like a 'crazy chick' now does it.

  • @sns21274 I absolutly think they were both the two most beautiful actresses in cinema history, and I admire them so much...But come on, NO ONE would of played Scarlett O' Hara better than Vivien Leigh did, she was born for that role! :)

  • I just learned today that Hedy invented Spread-Spectrum Radio Frequency Hopping Technology waaayyyy back in 1942. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and I did not know this fact. This concept finds itself ubiquitously in radio-controlled devices including cell phones.

What a beautiful, cute, sexy, and smart Girlie that Hedy was. I'm glad she got bored one day by the Hollyweird social scene, set up a drafting table in her house, and began freeform thinking. <3 , Hedy !

  • she was beautiful

  • That's HEDLEY!!

    j.k.

    Classic beauty...

  • Sorry, I'm just a man. And when Victor Mature through her down onto that bedding and she looked back up into the camera, I wanted to jump right through the screen at her. Beautiful? Completely. Smart? Obviously. But don't forget sexy.

  • Exquisite exceptional beauty !! i understand what Lana Turner meant when she said (in her autobiography) that Hedy had an "incredible face" and was "enough to make strong men faint" !

Or what George Sanders meant in his "Memoirs of a professional cad": "Lamarr was so beautiful that everybody would stop talking when she came into a room" !!

    Beauty with brains too !!

  • @rickcee I totally agree w you--people knock Stepn Fet., Hattie McD.l for doing subserviant roles--but this was the only work available to them--they made a living & fed their families! Who are we to judge these many years later? And, yes, as you mentioned, it went in reverse, white actresses had to put on make up to portray Indians, etc. If they didn't do it they were fired. Blame the studio heads--& the federal laws at that time. Bad time for all, but we've come out on the other side.
