The Holiness Of Jesus Christ
the light of Christmas Part 3
December 6, 2009

Definition of God as Holy: describes the majesty of God and the purity and moral perfection of His nature.

For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps. He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone. 1 Peter 2:22 (NLT)

We are therefore Christs ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christs behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV)

The Old Testament describes the Messiah as
•Isaiah 53:11 The righteous servant
•Psalm 45:7 The One who loved righteousness and hated wickedness

Which of you convicts Me of sin? John 8:46a (KJV)

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15 (NKJV)

3 Traps That Keep Us from Being Holy

Matthew 3:13-17
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me? Jesus replied, Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness. Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.

1. The Lust Of The Flesh
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." Jesus answered, "It is written: `Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" Matthew 4:1-4 (NIV)

2. The Lust Of The Eyes
Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: " `He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'" Matthew 4:5-6 (NIV)

3. The Pride Of Life
Jesus answered him, "It is also written: `Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'" Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me." Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: `Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'" Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him. Matthew 4:7-11 (NIV)

How Can I Overcome Temptation?

a. Figure out when Im most tempted
•When am I most tempted? Where am I most tempted? Who is with me when I am tempted? What temporary benefit do I get if I give in? How do I feel right before Im tempted?

b. Dont settle for second best.

c. Pray and Ask God for help.

d. Refocus my thoughts.
Temptation is the pull of mans own evil thoughts and wishes. These evil thoughts lead to evil actions. James 1:14-15a (LB)
•Temptations always goes through 3 stages 1. Gets your attention 2. Arousal 3. Action:

e. Get in a group where I can grow.

But remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you cant stand up against it. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT)
