Beautiful job! I would fall over if my donkey offered to trot! How do you get so much forwardness from him?!
I'm working with my 6 or 7 year old mammoth, Mack, and he's my first donkey. Kind of hard for me to figure out. He backs REAL good.lol.

Thanks. I started trotting while out on trail rides. getting him motivated to trot in a ring came after he understood he COULD trot. I guess the main trick is don;t ask for it unless your sure you can get it. IOW, you don't want your donk to learn he/she can ignore your cues. A donkey's biggest concern is his footing. So carrying your weight and trotting can be scary for them at first. trotting and turning corners would be even scarier for a green donkey.
Good luck with MACK :)

If anyone notices how Apollo tried to veer over to the judge while trotting the circle, that's because he wants to stop and chat (and maybe get an ear rub). Donkeys are so much more affectionate than their cousins, the horse. It's like having a golden retriever in a horse's body! The best of two worlds.
