Nanotechnology was the theme of the Fall 2009 Ballenger Eminent Persons Lecture Series. The two-day program Nov.4-5 included several workshops with experts including James Hamilton, Bahram Roughani, Pascale Leroueil, and John V. Stone. Nanotechnology, which includes studying the control of matter on an atomic and molecular scale, has stirred debate over potential cons and boons. The field could potentially create new devices that could help better areas of medicine, electronics and energy production. But it has raised concerns about toxicity to the environment. The events were free and open to the public.
