I'm kind of a night person, so I'm usually sort of half-awake until well into the afternoon. Since most people stop skating right about then, I often just end up going out by myself at around midnight (when the subways start to close), to skate some of the various spots around my neighborhood. Usually I stay out until about sunrise, but there've been times when I stay out long enough to meet up with people and skate through the next day. In March of 2003, I documented this process on video, edited the footage as soon as I got back, and had this section uploaded to my website by noon. Since then the landscape, and myself, has changed quite a bit, but I still go out once in a while. The main difference that I've noticed, is that back then, people's (especially cops and security guards) only objection to what I was doing was that I might hurt myself, or leave marks on the benches or rails - whereas now, they still object to my skating just as much, but more often seem a lot more concerned with the extreme anti-terror security risk I apparently cause by using a video camera so close to a subway station. Perhaps they're afraid that I'm trying to use my camera to camouflage myself amongst the overabundant amounts of security cameras that are constantly being installed. But I guess I can't complain, I mean, what's essential liberty really worth, compared to the warm comforting embrace of a little temporary safety? So nice to be living in the land of the safe.

haha yeah that effect was not intentional. something about the compression format i had the video in got fucked up when it uploaded. the original video's much easier to watch.

you should probably compress the video by exporting it to MPEG 4 or something before you upload, most likely its your browser unable to handle the huge data stream of what looks to be an uncompressed video.

no it's not uncompressed it's actually a really old overcompressed video that was something like 200 X 150 pixels quicktime. if i can find the original full quality some day then i'll try putting it compressing it to 425 X 318 with the photoJpeg codec.
