I guess it's not exactly like the sign lanuage way, but it is similar...

I've also heard that that is the proper way to count things during a speech or presentation. If I remember correctly one reason is cultural; in some cultures it is not good to stick up the index finger (how most people start to count 1). The other is the flow and ease of watching like he said. His way is to go left to right, the direction many people read, and it also happens to be the way that American sign language shows numbers.

Why is counting that way better than any other way (using your fingers)? Can you show how it is not smooth using other methods?
