  • I never thought I'd see pics of LZ Sharon again,I was there in Jan '68 to Oct '68 with 11th Avn Group.1st Cav Div.I also used to fly as a door gunner with 1-9th Air Cav.

    Blue-Max Echo-something call sign.

  • @electrochubb Welcome home, brother. We were the 105 arty Hq along the perimter towards the northeast of the pad

  • I was ar Evans for about 9 months in 1968 with the First Air Cav. Evans went back a long ways from the road. I'd say two or three miles. It was expanded and was a huge area after the Cav moved in. Thanks for the video. Lots of memories.

  • @dbaugh1805 As we compared the old map from the 60's that we carried with us to the new map, we found that the main road had been relocated in many areas. This might explain why Evans is closer to the road than it was back then.

  • When I left from there I never wanted to see that place again. Time changes a man. I had going back to see the place on my bucket list then the economy fell apart and I've been unemployed since 2009. Guess I'll just have to scratch that trip off my list. Welcome home brothers.

  • I was there with Charlie Btry 1/13 in 1966 that was our first operation ...when we landed in Dong Ha Headquarter for 3rd Marine Div...We were with the 5th Marine Div. Attached to the 3rd Div...Pvt. Evans was from our unit...after being there for about 4 months they moved us to phu bai...we fought in Hue and then ended up in Khe Sanh for the rest of my tour...Semper Fi

  • @clew4 Thanks brother & Welcome home to you also.I remember the arty positions.I was at the top of the MedEvac pad.Our unit was based at Evans, there were 5 of us stationed at Sharon.Three crewmembers I flew with were killed one night in mid July '68 when they had a turbine failure on takeoff.I never thought I'd be talking about it 42 years later.I guess I'm lucky & I Thank God for it.
