Kenne Brown is a familiar face in the FCSL, having coached the Sanford River Rats in two of the five seasons of the FCSLs existence. Brown took an honorary coaching position last year in the wake of his full recovery from cancer, but is back in full force this year with the Diamond Dawgs.
Brown, a local product, attended Lyman High School in Longwood. After a successful high school career, Brown played four season at the University of Louisiana-Monroe. He was drafted as a shortstop by the New York Yankees in 1987. After playing a total of three years in the minors, two with the Yankees organization and the other with the Cubs, Brown left professional baseball to become an assistant coach with Seminole High School in Sanford. After helping lead the team to a state championship in 1992, Brown was hired as the head coach at Oviedo High School in 1994. After several years there, Brown left baseball for four years but is back once again. Currently, he is the athletic director for Winter Springs High School.
