Ys Book 1 & 2 is a Turbografx-CD release of the first two games of the action RPG series Ys. You control a young red-haired hero named Adol Christian, whose task is to find the six books of Ys, an ancient paradise-like land that mysteriously disappeared long time ago. It is said that whoever possesses the six books can gain access into Ys. In the first game, Adol is on the quest to find the books and to enter Ys. The second game takes place in Ys itself, and Adol must defeat the evil Dark Fact and to liberate the land. The Turbografx CD release features enhanced CD-quality sound, better graphics, and anime style cut scenes. TurboDuo, PC Engine CD-ROM. Also available for wii virtual console.

  • i had the TG16 with CD, and gave that to my friend when i got the TurboDuo... sadly my brother sold it at a garage sale while i was away at college. :( Thanks for posting it on youtube!

    This game rocked for the music mostly. Although I was never so much a fan of the "run into it" attack system... i think sampling actually degraded music on video games from the quality it was here... i loved the bassy synthesizer sound system contrasting the smooth backdrop.

  • I like this game because of the awesome intro and the music tracks. For myself I was of bored with the gameplay walking around exploring and talking to towns people.

  • i miss this game, and im only 14. my dad had a turbographx with this game, and i remember playing it through a few times when i was young. kids usually dont have big attention spans which is needed for this, but this game was hypnotizing! im prob gonna get it for wii (but play with different controller xD) i could talk for a good long while bout this masterpiece =P

  • I appreciate your comment. I don't have the attention span needed for RPGs. But for this game I am very captivated by the intro. It's the best ever.

  • Crazy how so many people missed out on this. This game is amazing. Especially for its time :D

  • Amazing game thanks in part to the great music.

  • This game made my brain explode when it came out back in the day - still one of the best video game soundtracks of all-time.

  • @longhairedartist I remember seeing this for the first time at Radio Shack years ago, and indeed it was the music that made the game. I was always a huge fan of video game music, and this was like a complete dream technology, being the first CD based RPG in North America.

    It feels like technology has hit a plateau now - this was such a huge technological advance for the time, back when arcades were still king. Now what?

    Also, Dungeon Explorer 1 for TG16 had a great soundtrack.

  • Such good memories of this game. First game that I purchased the system just to play the game and also first CD game I played. Excellent music! I'm happy that remakes are being put out on the PSP. Although the description for Y's I & II Chronicles has me concerned, saying that Adol was found washed up on shore. I thought he just sailed into town. Anyhow thanks for posting the video

  • Seeing this opening in a game shop is the reason I bought a turbo duo!

  • "And now, the mystery unfolds...!"

    So frickin' epic.

  • The DS remake's intro for...actually, BOTH books isn't as good, IMO. I just now (like 20 minutes ago) got the PCE/Turbografx version on my Wii, and subsequently wish that I could pull an all nighter without waking my parents. Sadly, I'll just have to wake up at 6am like I did for saturday cartoons (which this HEAVILY reminds me of) back when KidsWB was still on-air.

    XD

  • *like when KidsWB etc. I really should go to bed. ^^;;

  • I LOVE THIS GAME.
