This reminds me of when I first moved to Ajax, Ontario. It was the exact same situation. farmers sold their land and mounds of soil were spread across the development.

One of the snap shots of empty farmlands reminds me of Elgin Mills in which many of the land there is currently empty. Let's see how long it will take us to utilize that area..

At the end of the day, people want to live near cities in Canada and as a result as long as this is a desire, we will continue to destroy sustainable farmland as the population grows and the population density in the cities increase.

This demonstrates how the socio-cultural environment affects our sustainable development.

Consequently unless we change our cultural norms, there is no way to prevent this.

speaking of sustainable development, oil exploration companies in most of the countries are politically supported to explore in order for the country to be energy independent from other countries. Therefore the point I'm trying to make is that many times politics promote unsustainable development.
