So what are you doing, coasting down a 45 degree downhill with your CVT going 45mph with your FCD reset at the top of the hill?? The best your CVT ever did for a full tank was 50mpg. Long live the five speed!!
-
@wentzr All most people will see is the 119 mpg @ 45 mph. They won't understand the condition and also that you might have been off the gas at the moment. I have a 2000 5 speed, so I know those amazing lil cars. yes I agree that more cars should have a MPG gauge.

1. You was deceleerating. dash was showing regen which only happens when your off the gas. honda insight go into fuel cut when in this mode
'
'2. Distance of .7 mile. see next note.
3. car was warmed up and at speed. i could go to some hilly region, reset my fcd and coast down for lot longer than that and show 150+ mpg.
#4. Car is a cvt which doesn't have the lean burn capabilities off the 5 speed. so now way should you claim 119 from it.

... I have a 2002 Insight, and you can get 150mpg+ at ANY speed as long as your decelerating (like in this video). Steady state roads, with A/C off I get:
35mph: 100mpg
45mph: 85mpg
55mph: 75mpg
65mph: 65mpg
75mph: 55mpg
Those are about my averages for typical Road and interstates in the Southeast. Around town, I get about 65mpg, with red lights every mile of driving. I tend to floor it from a red light, using max battery boost, and shift quickly to the speed limit, maxing MPG.

the 2000-2006 Honda Insight was assembled in
Suzuka, Mie, Japan

Best hybrid sold in America, and one of the few worth owning.

well you either let off the gas, stepped on the brake pedal, or traveling downhill. you can see that its charging the battery.
Would you still have wasted your time writing your rebuttal had you read the description of the video? It's not a claim. It was b-roll for a promo on hybrids.

ahh.. it was a shame when someone nailed me in this car while they were blowing a red light, totaling it. It's been 5 months and I still have no desire to replace that car with anything on the road .. and after hearing more about the cr-z i doubt its anything i'll buy.. good memories of this car!!

then again to be real, i live 5 mins from work in downtown oakland.. bumpy roads and stop lights every block for 2 miles.. my week commute MPG average with the way i drive is hard to keep at 40mpg. but for city driving like that.. this aint too shabby.
That's the real-world economy range of this car. it's quite amazing and too bad ppl can't get over their visual image. i bought it for the specs-not attention, contrary to the belief of most who think hybrid drivers "just want to be noticed"

it is.. and i apparently deleted the comment asking if this was downhill... no if this was downhill at 45mph i'd be getting an off the chart 150mpg... the highest the gauge goes is 150, but I've done downhill freeway stretches here in CA that need a couple miles of hard driving to bring the trip average below 150 mpg.. yes it IS a wonderful car. Everyone asks if i've ever had problems.. knock on wood 120,000 miles in the answer is no. faaar less service checks than any car too. not bad.
