I first heard this song from the LP issued in 1977. I fell in love with it, instantly. I was 23.

As of today, indeed.

  • @ capeguy954 - What an honor, to you and yours, and to Barbara Cook.

  • Beautiful!

  • Goodness, I am honored by your reply.

  • God.....I love Barbara singing this song!!

"My true love has a special way of waking me!!"

    Such a beautiful lyric!!

  • Bless you for you kind attention to the song.

  • Barbara sang this on 2/27/06 at the Lincoln Center Annual Benefit (Vivian Beaumont Theatre). The concert featured Barbara Cook and Elaine Stritch; it was called "In Alphabetical Order". Barbara sang it in the same key as 'your' recording.

  • Your comment is testimony to Cook's taking care of her voice, and I especially appreciate the touch of Stritch mention, Alpha Order, and same key as 'my' recording.

    You've made my week.

  • I just came across this most beautiful song after so many years.......we first heard Barbara Cook live in Washington DC in 1977 - and fell in love with her and her wonderful talent. This song is especially poignant - the last few lines - love was easy because we had each other - that was so true for 24 years - and, yes, our love made it easy for you to have to leave me, Dan - I smiled when I heard this song- it's been over 13 years and I still miss you as much as I did the day you died.

  • Interesting to hear Barbara Cook cover The Partridge Family.

  • this is beautiful

    i love these songs

and of course she is sublime

  • The beautiful Janis Ian "Stars" was the first song I ever heard Barbara Cook perform in recital. It is also my favorite of her repertoire as well as one of my very favorite songs.

  • Barbara's clear soprano voice and her

diction are impeccable!! This is a beautiful

song sung by a beautiful lady! A very moving performance indeed! Thanks for

    sharing...

  • I love this song. On the same CD is my all time favorite Barbara Cook effort "Stars". What an incredible talent.

  • Admittedly, I've never heard any other artist perform this song; however, when Barbara Cook wraps her vocal cords around a song and a lyric, there is usually no need for comparison. A beautiful performance!
