Jack Poole a beginner in 1968 lied about his background in Aikido and Budo - With the support of the British Aikido Board
They attempted to corrupt the history of UK Aikido from its inception in 1955 by Kenshiro Abbe.
About the video: In the year 2000 the British Aikido Board " BAB " ( Bad at Budo ) colluded with a Mr Jack Poole Shinwakai to corrupt the true history of British Aikido from its inception in 1955 by Kenshiro Abbe Sensei. The BAB refused to view this film, or the photos available of Mr Poole as a beginner in 1968,they presented Mr Poole with a tarnished Bronze Statue to celebrate his fraudulent claims. The BAB have since reluctantly apologised for the devious part they willingly played in this saga. On the other hand, Mr Poole still polishes his statue - he has unashamedly never apologised for his part. Mr Poole was an immediate beginner in 1968 with Henry Ellis, yet claimed he started Aikido with Tadashi Abe Sensei in 1952 in France ~ More claims !! Received 1st dan in ShotoKan Karate 16 years before it was even introduced to the UK. ~ Represented the British Judo Council in international competition in 1955 !! The BJC was not founded until 1958 and did not enter into international competition until the late 1960's. ~ Trained in Kendo with Tomio Otani many years before Tomio started Kendo, in fact Tomio was then a young 13 yr old schoolboy ~ Claimed he was 3rd dan Judo with M Otani Sensei in the 1950s - Robin Otani Sensei states " I have all my fathers old records on a computer disc and there is no record of a Mr Jack Poole. I seek no personal recognition, I already have enough. Shodan & Nidan diplomas signed by OSensei Morihei Ueshiba A personal letter of gratitude from the present Doshu, quote; Aikidoists who were awarded dan grades by the founder are becoming fewer year by year, I believe that someone like you is very precious. Recent recognition awards by TK Chiba Shihan. And much more.

There is no hate, simply setting the history straight. You watch the video, you see the truth, then you have the gall to quote the values of Budo, yet, you appear to condone Mr Pooles attempts to change British Budo history. Perhaps if you had listened as I have to one of Mr Pooles loyal dan grades, sadly telling of the hours he and other students had listened enthralled at many Walter Mitty stories told to him over the years, the betrayal was clear to see.

I think that is besides the topic. No matter what you think of grading or policy; making up a fake resumee is simply *wrong*.

Why do you want to shoot the messenger?

  • Sir, you certainly deserved to be respected. It is your attention to minor details that keep aikido going. Best wishes.

for aikitrad- and I do mean that

  • Perhaps we also forget that a "budo" practitioner needs to concern themselves with issues of respect and etiquette and discipline - and that all those things are owed to their teachers. Mr. Pool attempted to alter the history of legendary teachers, inserting himself instead. His attempt was foiled despite lazy government concerns and the time it took, bringing together the true old teachers to once again set things straight for us all. Respect is earned, You are what you are and nothing more.

  • So much hate, so little respect, everything is the same in aikido or any other martial art ... see( Ellis v Poole) aikido. We forget that a true "budo" practitioner minds his/her own business and works for the art not for some kind of a personal recognition. As far as I am concern- Ellis=Poole-.
