Here's a video of a 4000 with STAR III narration ('D' flavor). The cable company here (Warner) didn't do the necessary audio configuration changes when they replaced the old III with the new 4000. This issue was corrected around the beginning of 1993.

A few other things about this video:
It appears "FRZ DRZL" isn't a category for the Latest Obs page yet (Drizzle at 29 or 31 degrees?).

There is a transition effect between the first and second screen, but it is missing for the second to third screen.

The weather icons on the regional map contain so many shapes that the it is still drawing when it's time for the screen to appear.

The song title is "Houston" by David Benoit.

  • The 4000s had redraw issues that ealy? :o

  • That was normal for it to do that (the icon thing). I guess the processor just wasn't fast enough to keep up with that many shapes. This would also happen often with the extended forecast.

  • Awww I was like 4 or 5 and remember this

  • That was normal, as was the "black cloud" syndrome during the nighttime hours.
