JAN GARBER and his Orchestra, with JOHNNY MARVIN on vocals play and sing "Bye-Bye, Pretty Baby" on Victor 20833-A, recorded 7-21-1927. Leading a band from 1917 to 1977 is pretty good, right? From the time Jan Garber was 21 'till he passed away at the age of 83, he led his own band. Well, there were periods where he didn't have a band, and there were also periods when he played for other organizations... but 60 years in the music business ain't too shabby. In total, Mr. Garber recorded over 750 records. During that run, he changed styles several times to keep up with musical taste. Kind of reminds me of a guy named David Bowie.... Played on my 1926 Victor "Credenza," with an un-restored Orthophonic reproducer and soft-tone needle. ENJOY! And remember- USE A NEW STEEL NEEDLE EVERY PLAY!

  • I like the way your reproducer sounds, even unrestored it sounds great. I just put a new back rubber flange on one of my brass reproducers to. I have the original ball bearings in it, can't see the need to change them it sounds great. Like the reproducer collection you have there
