China and Russia should strive mutually to further promote the strategic partnership between the two countries. That was agreed by both sides Friday afternoon in Beijing during a meeting between President Hu Jintao and Russia's new president.
To welcome the Russian leader who was on a two-day state visit to China, President Hu Jintao hosted a red-carpet ceremony in front of the Great Hall of the People.

The two leaders held talks afterwards.

Hu Jintao first congratulated Medvedev for taking the position of Russian President. He said that the strategic partnership China and Russia establised 12 years ago has yeilded remarkable achievements.

In elaberation, Hu said that a mature political framework was set up; more than 200 legal agreements were signed, historical boundary issues were solved, bilateral trade volume gained high increase for 8 consecutive years.

The fast-growing trade fulfilled the need of speedy economic growth of both countries, which shows that economic cooperation between the two countries is becoming increasingly substantial andbringing benefits to both peoples, Ma said.

As a key part of the Sino-Russian strategic relations, the two states hosted theme years to boost social exchanges: the Year of Russia in China in 2006 and the Year of China in Russia in 2007.

Medvedev, then first deputy prime minister and Russia's chairman of the theme years' organizing committee, said such activities were pioneer projects and had yielded remarkable achievements.

Medvedev will hold talks with Chinese President Hu. He will also meet top legislator Wu Bangguo, top political advisor Jia Qinglin and vice president Xi Jinping.
Medvedev is scheduled to deliver a speech at Peking University on Saturday afternoon.

Medvedev told major Chinese media in Moscow before his China tour that any topic of interest to both sides could be discussed.

"I hope that consultations between me and Chinese President Hu Jintao, as well as other Chinese leaders, will cover a wide range of issues," he said. "I am full of expectations for the visit, which will be substantial and constructive."

Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Li Hui said Medvedev's visit to China had four goals: establishing good working relations and personal friendship between the leaders of the two countries;

ensuring the goals of Sino-Russian ties in the next few years; increasing political trust and giving each other firm support on issues concerning sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and deepening pragmatic cooperation.

Medvedev is the first head of state to pay a state visit to China after the devastating earthquake in the southwestern Sichuan Province.

This is Medvedev's first state visit to China and his first visit outside the Commonwealth of Independent States since he was sworn in on May 7.

  • @powerofthroughts, China & Russian need each other not only for the natural resources & cash flow which they both can get from other sources, what make them view each other as irreplaceble partner is the CURRENCY issue=US has been printing worthless paper currency for the past 40 years to force the world to "exchange" their real goods for these worthless paper; that how US's gotten so rich. China & Russia will set up a new CURRENCY sys. None on can do that alone, not even US;it needs GB & France

  • @Phead128, "China leads under no-one", but you know that Russian will be led under No-one either. I think that makes these 2 counties the partners matched in heaven. These 2 countries have learned about each other, about the world, as well as the role each has in the world; even more important, they'v learn from their own mistakes & each other's mistakes. I think both countries have be thinking long and hard, therefore, this relationship is a mature one. I have confident in it. I am a Chinese

  • Russia and china are really got no choice but to work together, The Chinese needs resources, especially oils and gas. The Russian knew that no country would pay them in advance, as they need the cash flow for developing their country's economy. Military is still not main focus here. As the Chinese knew no body deal to attack Russia or china.

  • @fixdeluxe1.

Fuck Russia. Dude, Red China didn't trust Soviet Union's desire to lead the Communist world, Red China is an entity in itself with 1/5 of the world's population. China leads under no-one, China is the best.

  • China + Russia = like half the world loool

  • Both China and Russia are already a counter-balance to the failing NATO.

The European Union is very Left-wing,and wants to break away from corrupt Right-Wing American Politics.

As for the Military,Russia and China combined create a massive force. They are together co-operating in advancement and research of technology,Russia having the "Force Projection" and China having the "Fire-power".

Economically, they are also industrial juggernauts,Russia with Oil and China with Services and Products.

  • People on opposite sides of the world should never go to war. I hope there is Never a WW3...we will ruin the Earth
