This is just a small portion of my point of view. I do feel slightly sorry for the workers but... come on! Everyone is suffering during these times. We would all like more money and such!

What is your point of view?

  • Most supervisors, superintendents, managers, district managers, etc etc etc, steal way more than $100,000 per year. They also receive a 3% bonus annually on these over-inflated salaries. What the union workers are asking for is 120 days at the end of a 30 0r 35 year career. Is that too much? The average salary for a union worker is $45,000 per year

My solution would be to trim management staff by at least 50% to free up cash in the budget for the people who actually do the work.

  • That's a really good idea.

  • Few people work as hard as garbage collectors: all day in the hot sun (covered from head to toe) , early in the morning, or late night in the freezing cold. It might not be so much the workers who are unreasonable, as the power-hungry cupe leadership.

  • You have a very good point there. Thanks for the comment.

  • Although the city could potentially fire all the workers, because the union has so much power it would just simply give them all their jobs back with extra pay. Trust me it happens all the time.

  • True. Very true.

  • I completely agree man..even though I dont live in Toronto..I am frustrated cose One day i will live there when i start working! Have an idea...throw eggs at these assholes once they r back at work

  • They are not an essential service becasue essential services are more expensive. Arbitrated settlemnts generally settle for wages that are higher. Everyone says it, including th candian federation of independant buissness. It doesn't mean arbitrated settlements are greedy, just expensive.

  • Unions build the middle class because they demand fair pay.

If people are working for starvation wages of 10$ an hour, with out union protection, the city will suffer. Don't forget your humanity. It may cost more to pay people fairly, but we have a moral obligation. They are not vacationing. They want to work, because they too are losing money. Unions push for more hours, and peer reviewed studies (ask me for the link) show union firms achieve higher productivity,
